Chibber brings laurels to J&K, honoured with Goenka award | | | New Delhi, Jan 17: Maneesh Chhibber, a native of Jammu, has brought laurels to the state by winning the prestigious 5th Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award. He won the award in the Politics and Government category. The award was presented by Vice-President of India Hamid Ansari at a glittering function at Hotel Taj Palace in New Delhi on Monday evening.
Chhibber, currently an Assistant Editor with The Indian Express, Delhi, was selected from among many entries for scooping the top secret report of the Justice MS Liberhan Commission into the destruction of the Babri Masjid structure in 1992.
Following the publication of the report, Parliament remained stalled for many days, with MPs cutting across party lines seeking a high-level probe into how Chhibber accessed the top secret report. The report revealed the names of top politicians, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee and former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP leader L K Advani, who were indicted by the country’s longest-running Commission for their role in the destruction of the controversial structure. The Government was then forced to table the report in Parliament along with the action taken report.
Chhibber, whose father Prof RK Chhibber was Director, Education, Jammu, is an aluminus of Presentation Convent High School and did his LLB from Jammu University.
