Comprehensive transport policy on anvil: Akhoon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JAN 17: Minister for Transport, CA&PD Qamar Ali Akhoon has said that the state would soon have a comprehensive Transport Policy the draft of which has already been framed, while the process for the implementation of short term Transport Mobility Plan(TMP) for the twin capital cities is underway. The Minister was addressing a seminar on “Road Accidents and Human Factor: the ways to tackle the problem in J&K” and “Role of Information Technology in combating crime: A Reappraisal of our present functioning” organized by Criminologist Society of Jammu in collaboration of Jammu and Kashmir Police held at Police Auditorium last evening. Akhoon said that the Transport policy envisages long term and short term plans adding that the long term plan is yet to be finalized, while the efforts are afoot to ensure early implementation of short term measures for better traffic regulation on the roads of the state. Referring to the installation of traffic signal lights in Jammu and Srinagar, the Minister said that the project would soon see the light of the day. He said the process of identification of major crossings in the winter capital has already been completed, while for Srinagar the project plan will be given final shape in next few months. The Minister also listed various measures taken by the government to keep a check on the cyber crime and said that a separate wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has been established to deal with such crimes. He said though the graph of cyber crimes in Jammu and Kashmir is low, but the police department has come a long way in establishing a strong surveillance cell to check such type of crimes. Later the Minister released a book titled “Controlling the mind of a criminal, the yogic way” written by Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, President, Criminologists Society, Jammu. Advocate General M I Qadri, Commissioner Secretary Transport, Pardeep Gupta, Secretary CA&PD, Muhammad Abbas Dar, Inspector General of Police Traffic H L Lohia, DIG Jonny William and Kamal Saini, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, various SPs, academicians, intellectuals, politicians, social activists members of Criminologists Society and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
