EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, JANUARY 17: Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Kuldeep Khoda today took stock of the assistance extended by the police functionaries in snow bound areas of the valley and remote areas of Jammu region.
Directing all district superintendents of police to mobilize their subordinate establishments to check hoarding and black marketing in their respective areas so that problems of the people are eased, Mr. Khoda sought reports from the district superintendents of police about the action taken on the PHQ directions regarding the assistance provided to the people in snow affected areas. He has said that vested interests would try to exploit the situation and indulge in hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities during the situation caused by closure of National Highway and other connecting roads.
The DGP was informed that police personnel under the supervision of Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police and District Superintendents of Police took a massive operation to clear snow from various areas of valley and remote areas of Jammu Zone. He was told that police personnel and home guards were pressed into service for clearance of snow on the roads leading to the hospitals, water resources and other places of public importance. Besides, ambulance facilities were provided to the patients, who needed immediate medical care, for their transportation up to the nearest hospitals and also provided transport to shift the dead bodies from the hospitals to their locations.
Similarly, free langers were arranged for the patients and attendants at various hospitals in the valley and Dozers were hired for snow clearance on link roads and police vehicles provided to the electric department to ensure water and power supply. In some areas police seized LPG cylinders which were being sold in black market and these cylinders were distributed among the people through ration depots, he was informed.
Khoda asked the police officers to keep ambulances stand by to meet the exigency of shifting patients to nearest hospitals. He has also directed to work in close coordination with civil administration to restore road connectivity, electricity and water supply.
Mr. Khoda has appealed the people to inform the nearest police stations, police posts and control rooms, which are working round the clock, about the black marketers and hoarders in their areas so that essential items are made available to the people on reasonable rates.
