Resenting power cuts, Samba people block National Highway | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Samba, Jan 17:Weary of prolonged unscheduled power cuts stretching up to 10 hours daily and voltage fluctuations resulting into damage to electric appliances, hundreds of residents from district Samba today took to streets and blocked ever busy Jammu Pathankot Highway late on Tuesday night. Reports from Samba said that Samba People raising slogans against government and power department took to the streets and then blocked the National Highway paralyzing the usual vehicular movement on this ever busy road. Protestors alleged that the administration of Samba has become defunct and completely failed to address the problems of the people. They also demanded the replacement of the administration with immediate step. Due to prolonged unscheduled power curtailments, people alleged the water supply too have suffered a lot. Many a times they have approached to the administration and apprised their problems but administration at the helm of affairs is in deep slumber, one of the protestor said over telephone further apprehending that due to frequent power cuts, the entire district is enveloped in darkness and with few days left for Republic Day the miscreants may take advantage of the situation. Meanwhile tehsildhar Samba Navzeet Wazir and senior police officer rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors and to get the traffic streamlined on the Jammu Pathankot national Highway but the protestors did not budge, the reports from area added. However it was after assurances from senior officers of PDD saying that the damaged transformer will damaged transformer will be replaced soon the protestors got pacified and dispersed.
