First Lady inaugurates Silk Mark Expo-2012 at Kala Kendra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 18: First Lady , Usha Vohra Wednesday inaugurated 1st of its kind Silk Mark Expo-2012 at Kala Kendra Jammu, showcasing the entire range of pure silk products produced at various weaving clusters of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country. The Expo was jointly organized by the Silk Mark Organization of India and Sericulture Development Department of the state. About 30 weaving clusters from across India participated in the expo by setting up their stalls in the Expo to showcase their silk products. Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Vice Chairman of Kissan Welfare Board Rachpal Singh were also present on the occasion. First lady Usha Vohra went round the stalls and evinced keen interest in the silk products put on exhibition and sale. She also interacted with the weavers and inquired about the procedure adopted in manufacturing the attractive furnished silk products. Usha Vora and Agriculture Minister were informed by the organizers that the main objective to organize the Silk Mark Expos is to provide a plat form to the weavers, manufactures, retailers and other stake holders of the silk industry to display and sell their products. It also provides an opportunity to the interested consumers to purchase genuine and pure Silk products. Talking to media on the sidelines, First Lady said that such Expos go a long way in providing a competitive market for such traditional craft products. She hoped that the expo would benefit the grass root worker associated with the silk industry in a big way. She said the Agriculture Minister has assured that the government was making all out efforts to promote and revive the heritage industry of the state. On the occasion Minister for agriculture, said that the Expo would provide a platform for marketing of Bivoltine Silk Products of J&K as the state falls on number one in its quality production across the country. He said that for the revival of our heritage Silk Industry, numerous steps has already been taken at the highest level and added that the sericulture department with close coordination of central silk board and SKUAST is moving fast to make J&K first state of the country in production of quality Silk Cocoons. Agriculture Minister Mir said that the government has already lunched various schemes for the revival of the silk industry by providing incentives to the rearers. |
