Ministers visiting Valley in hordes….political race or indiscipline in coalition…..? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 18: In what can be aptly seen as a 'political marathon' to score points, the allies of coalition in J&K are busy in mad race of visiting snow affected areas and district headquarters in Kashmir Valley - all to take stock of supply position and other arrangements for the people. Nearly a dozen of ministers belonging to both National Conference and Congress visited the Valley areas during the past 3-4 days and as many as 7 ministers in addition to one advisor to Chief Minister is camping in Valley. Not a single minister has visited any far flung areas of Jammu which too witnessed heavy snowfall triggering manifold hardships for the people in such areas. Call it political one upmanship or complete lack of coordination and cohesiveness among the ruling allies, the race towards Kashmir and visits to districts only reflects utter state of 'indiscipline' in the ruling coalition led by Omar Abdullah. The scene witnessed at least during the past two days shows desperate attempts of ministers of both the places to reach the places that witnessed heavy snowfall. What appears interesting is the fact that when NC ministers complete their visits to particular areas, Congress ministers enter the same districts for a same purpose. In no less contest than a political race, both the parties are madly engaged in the spree of visits to show presence in these areas . The leadership of the both the parties may argue the ministers have been deputed to take stock of the condition of people in hardships on account of the heavy snowfall and that the government is very concerned to see ameliorate suffering of the people by taking immediate steps to provide some succor. One can also agree to some extent that presence of the ministers and personal monitoring helps expedite things in terms of providing some relief at the end of administration. But one fails to understand the presence of over 8 ministers at one point of time and that too for a same purpose. That the government is bearing the burden of expenses on its exchequer on visits of ministers heavily is too implicit a fact that needs mention, ours being a state facing financial crisis. More than that, it presents functioning of the government in very bad light as the ministers of both the parties are in race in making the visits to district headquarters. For it makes no sense to visit in a row to any area which already stands visited by ministers of ruling ally. It also shows as if there is no control, no check from any top hierarchy(at the level of CM), on the visits of as many visitors , a scenario which is just contrary to what used to be seen in the previous coalition regime led by PDP. The then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, during such critical phases or circumstances of urgency caused due to inclement weather would depute a team comprising not more than 3-4ministers who would go to affected areas, prepare a report promptly for even more speedy action from the administration . Amid this scenario , what looks more disappointing as usual is that no one is bothered nor concerned over the plight of people in snowfall affected areas of Jammu region . |
