Expedite relief and rescue operations in Ramban : Shaheen

Banihal, Jan 18: National Conference leader Sajjad Shaheen has urged upon the government and district administration to expedite the relief and rescue operations in district Ramban especially in tehsil Banihal as people are facing immense hardships due to continuous heavy snow fall for the second time in the state.
Expressing concern over the crisis like situation in Banihal he said that people living in Banihal especially in far flung areas have been badly affected by the recent snowfall and all link roads in Banihal connecting the town with major villages like Kaskut- Lambar ,Chanjlu, Duligam-Phagow, Bankut-Thachi, Nachlana-Mahu, Chamalwas-Neel, Ukharhal-Senabati, Pogal-Paristan have been closed and some of the roads have been washed away at several places due to avalanches and landslides. Shaheen further said that Banihal tehsil has been badly affected by the recent heavy snow fall and lot of houses have been reportedly damaged in Neel, Mahu-Mangit, Pogal, Maligam, Sumar and other areas.
He said that there is severe shortage of food grains and fodder in hilly areas and has urged upon the administration to start relief & rescue operations immediately in totally cut off hilly areas through the choppers. He said, regular sorties of choppers should be arranged for air dropping of ration, fuel, medicines and other relief items in Neel, Mahu-Mangit, Pogal, Maligam, Paristan, Sumar Chaka, Bingara, Trigam, Khari, Bawa, and other areas.
''There is acute shortage of gas and kerosene oil in Banihal which has multiplied the sufferings of people and has appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately dispatch adequate stock of cooking gas and kerosene and also speed up the ongoing restoration work so the connectivity is restored to all the major villages at an earliest possible time. He has appealed to the government to depute special teams to the affected areas to access the losses and sanction adequate relief to the affected families and also direct medical and paramedical staff to remain available at their respective places especially in far flung and cut off areas so that people are provided medical aid in case of any emergency.
He has also appealed to the Chief Minister to sanction three months free ration to all the effected people of Ramban district.
