Govt not serious for revival of sick PSUs: Tarigami | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 18: CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami has said that the functioning of Public Sector Undertakings was worst ever in the state as evident from the report of Comptroller and Auditor General(CAG). Referring to the report, he said that almost all such units were running in losses worth hundreds of crores that speaks volumes about the defective and in-disciplined financial management in these sectors, that has a direct impact on state economy and personnel working in these units. According to the CAG report heavy losses were incurred in Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation(Rs.54.67 crores) Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (Rs. 39.05crores) Jammu and Kashmir Industries Ltd(Rs. 36.23crores). The report also says that Jammu Kashmir State Forest Corporation has not maintained its accounts since 1996-97. Such situation has been prevailing in these undertakings for decades together and nothing has been initiated by the successive governments to bring them out of mess and restoring accountability and financial management, said Tarigami. He questioned the working of these undertakings and said that despite having huge potential for generating revenue and providing employment, these have been brought to the verge of extinction and their survival is at risk. Holding the management responsible for the mess created in these undertakings, he urged the government to be serious for revival of the sick PSUs and formulate a time bound policy for bringing them out of mess and making them profit earning. Non-maintenance of accounts by some PSUs depicting profits and losses was more concerning as reflected by the CAG's report; he said and added that the govt should fix responsibility on the management of all the PSUs for maintenance of accounts and overhauling of such PSUs which are running in losses. Tarigami demanded constitution of High Power Committee (HPC) to review the functioning of PSUs and recommend measures for making them vibrant and profit earning. Every step be taken for revival of these units and whatever support needed be provided for the purpose. |
