Dy Chief Minister reviews snow clearance, dewatering operation

SRINAGAR, Jan 18 : The Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand immediately on his arrival from Jammu, reviewed measures taken by various departments with regard to snow clearance.
Accompanied with Commissioner, SMC and Director, Housing and Urban Development Department toured different parts of Srinagar City, the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who toured around the city also took stock of situation arising out of heavy snowfall in valley and inspected snow clearance operation being conducted by the SMC and other departments.
The Deputy Chief Minster visited two dewatering pump stations, at Ibrahim Colony, Hyderpora and at Barzulla near Bone and Joint Hospital. The concerned Engineers of Drainage Division informed the Deputy Chief Minister that 72 permanent dewatering stations are operational in Srinagar city for dewatering low lying areas of the city. He informed the minister that dewatering pump stations are operating round the clock for dewatering purpose.
Deputy Chief Minister was informed by the Commissioner, SMC that 72 mobile pumps are available with SMC Drainage Circle, out of which 37 are deployed permanently for dewatering low lying areas of Srinagar city and 35 mobiles pumping units remain standby to meet any eventuality caused due to heavy snowfall.
The Deputy Chief Minister also visited Silk Factory colony at Solina and personally observed Sanitary Workers of SMC removing snow from the interior lanes of the area. Tara Chand also visited Bakshi Stadium where snow clearance and dewatering of rain water was in progress. He asked SMC and PWD authorities to ensure removal of snow and dewatering of rain water as early as possible so that on Republic Day the January 26, 2012 Bakshi Stadium remains dry and full public gathering is ensured.
The locals there expressed satisfaction with regard to snow clearance from interior lanes of Srinagar city and important locations through SMC.
The Deputy Chief Minister also visited Khawaja Naqashband Sahib Shrine and took stock of arrangements being made for Urs there. He hailed SMC and appreciated the measures taken to remove snow from the area on war footing basis.
Tara Chand also visited Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta, Srinagar where office bearers of market Management met him who expressed their satisfaction and appreciated the timely action of SMC for snow clearance from lanes to facilitate the movement of public.
Deputy Chief Minister assured locals that all possible measures will be taken to provide essential commodities to the citizens of Srinagar city and to the residents residing around the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar.
The Deputy Chief Minister later took a meeting of the officers and HOD's of various Departments at his residence to review the steps being taken by the administration for mitigating the hardships people are facing due to inclement weather.
