Electrical employees ask redressal of demands

JAMMU, Jan 19: Jammu and Kashmir Central Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Union has completed its 25 years of existence in the department and is going to celebrate its silver jubilee across the state.
Talking to media persons here today, Mohd Aslam Choudhary, provincial president of the union said power department has been facing a lot of problems due to shortage of staff and beside it requires strengthening of the system. He said that in 1981 re-organization is hardly 60pc of the departmentwhile several areas remain untouched since then a lot of infrastructure has been added but the field division remain unable to run the system properly.
He demanded re-organization of PDD according to present requirement and creation of new posts of linemen, SBA, telephone operators and other executive/ministerial cadres, issuance of district wise seniority to all the daily wagers in PDC/PDD, regularization of all daily wagers/casual labourers under provision 381, regular monthly wages should be enhanced from Rs 125 to 200 per day, transfer of all power projects to state sector to overcome the power shortage crises.
He also demanded re-trospective effect and pending arrears of already regularized daily wagers under SRO 64 before 31-03-1994, risk allowance/compensation to all power employees in any type of injury or life damage during duty hours and amendment in SR)381 dated 26-08-1981.
The union also appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir and industries to pay their respective pending dues of electricity upto ending February 2012 and avoid misuse of electricity.
The union also decided to launch an awareness drive in the state to overcome the misuse of electricity.
Among others who spoke in the press conference were Parshotam Sharma, Rinchen Narboo, Haji Hassan, Raj Kumar, Jai Gopal Sharma, Farooq Ahmed Bhat, Zahoor Alam, Sanjay Dhar, Umar Bhat, Ab Shakoor Sheikh, Suresh Sharma, Gurnam Salathia, Surjeet Sharma, Mohd Ayoob Chouhan and others.
