Govt pushing state into Ice-age: PDP
1/19/2012 11:09:42 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Srinagar, Jan 19 : The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on thursday slammed the National Conference govt of failing to restore electricity and road connectivity to villages, hamlets and upper reaches of rural Kashmir.
In a joint statement, PDP senior leaders, Sofi Abdul Gaffar MLA’s Mohd Rafi Mir , Qazi Mohd Afzal district president, Yasir Reshi district president, Saiffudin Bhat district president, district vice president and zone president Kokernag Ab Rahim Rather said that govt's belated response has pushed the valley into a an 'Ice age', and the mismanagement of the entire situation has further perpetuated the crisis and increased problems of the people. They said the tall claims of the administration that roads and link roads have been cleared, is nothing short of rubbish because apparently the situation in most of areas is still grim and unchanged. Yesterdays protest by residents in south Kashmir's Kulgam district against govt's failure of electricity restoration and road connectivity is a glaring example of how the govt and its administration have continued to remain callous to restore services to villages and upper reaches, they said. They said that NC govt, instead, of using traditional breast beating tactics, should get its head out of the sand and focus on the problems that people are braving on the face of extreme difficulties. The leaders added that state is being held hostage to paralysis of governance, and that too on account of unprecedented price rise, inflation and shortage of basic amenities, the pinch of which is felt by the common man. It is time for introspection, as to why this govt is so insouciant to people's sufferings, they said.
The leaders remarked that govt has failed the commoner and when govt fails, it does not only lead to loss of hope, but spawns frustration and revulsion against the system which is a pernicious development. The leaders also said that most villages have been reeling under darkness as electricity was snapped soon after the snowfall started and basic services, such as ration and LPG, is almost disappeared in the valley.Traffic mess and the subsequent govt mismanagement has created anarchy as passengers, amid the bone biting cold, are stuck on the either sides and cannot move neither to and fro various highways and roads.
