Pak LeT militant killed by troops in Poonch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 19: A Pakistani militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit was killed by a joint column of army and police in an encounter at Khaneti Mohalla in Mendhar, Poonch, in the wee hours of Thursday. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of LeT's Abu Wasim alias Abu Abrar Mistry and his accomplices at Khaneti Mohalla, troops of 39 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a search operation in the area late last night. Police sources said while the jawans were making searches, they came across the militants early this morning. When the jawans asked them to surrender, they threw a grenade towards them and opened fire which was returned. In the ensuing exchange of fire that continued for some hours, the jawans shot dead Wasim, the sources added. One AK rifle, its four magazines, 107 rounds, one UBGL grenade, for UBGL shells and one pouch were recovered from his possession. Wasim was active in Poonch and Rajouri for the past some years. Sources said the jawans were continuing searches in the area when reports last came in. |
