POWERGRID restores power supply to Kashmir Valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu/ New Delhi, Jan 20: POWERGRID engineers have successfully restored its 400 kV Wagoora-Kishenpur Ckt 1 & 2 Line within 48 hrs under extreme hostile conditions, which broke down due to heavy snowfall in the area, spokesperswon with POWREGRID said. In a statement spokesperson said the line connects the entire Kashmir valley to the Northern Grid and acts as the lifeline for the Valley. "The transmission line is situated in the south of Pir Panchal range. An unprecedented heavy snowfall engulfed the Kashmir Valley leading to major faults in the transmission and distribution network. As a result of which all communication in the region came to a standstill. Under this exigency POWERGRID acted promptly and launched the restoration operation, it added. Statement stated the restoration operation was monitored closely by the top management of POWERGRID. CMD, POWERGRID coordinated with CMD, NHPC and other key state officials for successful completion of this mammoth exercise. ED NRTS-II S C Singh and GM (Operations) Jagmohan Sharma actively supervised the restoration of both the circuits of Kishenpur-Wagoora Line, around 1000 Mega watts of electricity was made available to the Valley restoring life to its normal course, it added. |
