Jasrotia Biradari asks for saviour of the 'Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary' | | | Arun Trisal
Kathua, Jan 20: Alleging that Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary has reached on the verge of devastation and extinction due to the presence of some unwanted people and their cattle which further are subjecting it to deforestation and challenging the local wild life, Jasrotia Biradari has demanded the handing over of 75 kanals of land to community and rest to be covered under Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary. Vice president of Karan Singh Jasrotia of the Jasrotia community said Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary in Jammu and Kashmir flanked by the River Ujh and its greatest attraction is the Cheetal or deer. "The species that can be traced here are Dalbergia Sissoo, Acacia Catechu A. Arabica and Lannea Grandis. The flora includes shrubs like Carisa spinarum, Lantana camara and Dodonea Visacosa, he said. He said this Jasrota has the history of more than 600 years old and this is the entire territory falls under the jurisdiction of King of Jasrotia dynasty and having the more than 696 kanal land record in revenue is still on the name of Jasrotia ancestors while major spread of this territory has been taken under the wild life department but the wild life yet has not been protected by the concerned authority. The local Jasrotia Biradari has been making its kind efforts since long to protect this most historical spot, the management of Shiv, Ragunath, Kali Mata temples and others and urged the state Govt to bring the area on tourist map on the pattern of Mubarak Mandi Jammu. Jasrotia Biradari also demanded for handing over the 75 kanal land out of 696 kanal and put rest under the wild life. He said that the wild life in this area is disturbed by the entering of nomadic people who are hunting |
