| Lt Gen Panag presents gallantry awards at investiture ceremony | | | Udhampur Jan 15 Lt Gen H S Panag GoC in-C Northern Command presented 26 Gallantry and distinguished service awards at an investiture ceremony held at Dhruva Auditorium here today. The awards were presented to honour the acts of bravery and distinguished service of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans of the Indian Army. In a solemn and formal ceremony, the Army Commander presented the awards to 10 Officers, two JCOs and 14 other ranks. The awards include one Bar to Sena Medal, (second Sena Medal), 21 Sena Medals, two Bar to Vishist Seva Medals and two Vishist Seva Medals. A large number of Army and Air Force Officers, veterans, veer naris and civil dignitaries attended the function. Five Sena Medals were awarded posthumously to the brave Jawans, who had laid down their lives in the service of the Nation. Four veer naris and one next of kin received the awards on their behalf. Speaking at the function, Lt Gen Panag, commended the awardees for their valour, exceptional courage and dedication beyond the call of duty in the face of extreme adversity. Such sacrifices have played an important role in maintaining the sanctity of the borders and in ensuring the return of normalcy and peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Mrs Annie Panag, President Army Wives Welfare Association, Northern Command interacted with the Veer Naris of the posthumous awardees and lauded the supreme sacrifices of the jawans and presented gifts to them and also enquired about their well being .She assured them of the continuous support of the Army to help them overcome any problems and realize their aspirations.
