India an Unconventional Global Power
Ramesh Pandita1/20/2012 11:24:52 PM
Freedom does not mean people can rebel against the
country for small and petty issues, it is always the larger interest of country, which remains supreme, and anybody endangering that larger interest of country deserves to be dealt with iron fist. India as a country has seen more and more upsurge in anti-national elements and has already suffered heavily on this front only for the reason, because India could not develop itself powerful on conventional fronts, but the better part of the story is India has developed itself as an unconventional global power.
For a nation to be reckoned as world power is something which always rests on how powerful a country is at domestic front. If a nation is not having hold on its countrymen and if a county is not able to protect the interests of its citizens can never be rated as a world power. West has started recognizing India as an emerging global power, but the pathetic part is, a range of problems surround India, be it ULFA in northeast, Nexalities, Maoists and the social unrest in Jammu and Kashmir for the last two decades. The story does not end here, on one side, it is Pakistan, which continues to carry out insurgency operations in India, and at the same time China on the other side is looking for opportunities to add miseries to it, and to have control over both domestic and external front is not possible without boosting countries Military Might.
To be a global power firstly, the people should recognize their country as an emerging global power and they do should have fear in their minds at domestic front of their county of being a great power which cannot be rebelled against for trivial issues. After home, turn is always of neighborhood, neighborhood should always be well aware of the might of a county next to it. In South-Asia India is a powerful county, it should have made its might felt to all South-Asian countries soon after its attaining independence. This is where India actually missed the boat and as a result, we can see how its neighbors' are trying to destabilize it. The fact remains, how mighty or strong India may have grown all these years but the deterrence which is prerequisite or needed to keep the entire South-Asia region under control is missing. Therefore, the need is to work on developing hold on entire region this will itself help in creating deterrence with reverence among the neighboring countries, which ultimately will help in recognizing India as a great world power.
To attain supremacy in the entire South-Asia region, and to get recognized as a world power, India has got to work on both conventional and unconventional fronts. By conventional fronts, we mean to say developing Militarily Might, and Food Security. The list for unconventional forts goes endless which includes, Economically (Supplemented by Industry), Strategically, Technologically (IT & ICT), more and more FDI's, Acquisitions at global level, Production & Development, advancement in Sc & Tech., Medicine, Engineering, exploration of Space & Ocean and many more. India has already laid its footprint on various areas and the need is to carry forward hereon with same pace, the pace with which world is looking at India in addressing their issues and redressing their grievances.
By working on conventional methods of attaining might, so far India has been unable to attain the desired end and to become a global power, strengthening its conventional fronts is inevitable. Now-a-days we can see the world has transformed altogether and to become a world power India need to carry on the mission of working on unconventional methods, and no county can afford to become a world power by only working on conventional methods. As has transformed world so has its priorities, for that matter we can see the countries without or having minimal natural resources have excelled so greatly only because they succeeded in exploiting the unconventional path and have reached to the stage where they are being revered not only by their neighbors but others as well. If we have a look at the India's growth and progress at the unconventional front, the figures are convincing enough to recognize India as an unconventional world power. The Indian domestic IT and IT-enabled services market is expected to reach $50 billion in 2012 and overall Indian IT and IT-enabled services market is expected to reach $132 billion by 2012. Satellite TV subscriptions in India is expected to equal 25 million by 2012, up from 3.2 million in 2007. The dominant area of India's unconventional might is its software industry, which has already earned a big name for country and has become an unconventional world power in this particular field. As per the statistics available, during June 2010 in India there were nearly 81 million internet users which touched 100 million mark in march 2011 which constitutes 10.7% internet users in Asia and 8.5% of total global internet users. At software piracy front India lost $ 2.27 billion dollars during the year 2009. India's IT services export revenues were at $60 billion for the year 2010-11 recording a growth of 13-14% over the earnings of 2009-10. India's IT industry employs more than 2.5 million individuals directly or indirectly with its IT sector with nearly 30 percent growth over the past decade with revenues reaching almost $50 billion, accounting for 5.19 percent of India's GDP in 2009-10. India has already invested over six decades since independence to become a world power but a good distance is yet to be covered and the fact remains, by the time India has reached to this stage of development, world too has moved far ahead and the divide between the then world powers and India is still on. India definitely has bridged some portion of this divide but still there are areas where India is lagging and there is every danger that this divide may get further widened.
In recent past India started commercial launch of satellites, which has opened opportunity for country to earn foreign currency and generate revenue worth billions of dollars. India's acquisition in world market is being seen as a rearing power of Indian industry. L.N Mittal an Indian born steel tycoon has almost taken over worlds major steel ores and has become the steel king of world. Tata's have acquired the world's major car brands, Jaguar and Land-rover in U.K. Other business tycoons of India have also spread their wings in to world market, may it be telecom sector, chemicals, shipping, refinery, CNG etc. India has made its presence felt in almost every sphere of business activity world over. At the telecommunication front Indian is one among the three countries in the world with 208.9 million mobile subscribers which accounts 18.49 % of its total population. BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) countries alone account for an estimate 1.2 billion mobile phone subscribers and is expected to grow 1.7 billion by 2012. India has the second largest telecommunications network in the world after China with 308.51million subscribers. India's 12 wireless providers added 10.4 million subscribers in March 2008 alone. Every hour approximately 10 thousand mobile phones are sold in India.
India definitely is an undisputed world power at unconventional front, but to be a world power at conventional front as well, India need to strengthen this area equally.
There is no looking back for India from here, the road ahead is neither easy nor clear, and the pace and the momentum with which India is moving on its way to become a world power at every front is neither far nor impossible and the greatest resource with India to achieve this feet is its skilled Human Resource. What is more important is to channelize the energy of this young India in right direction by exploiting their knowledge and skill to its optimum.
