People aghast over shortage of essentials
Chenab Valley under ‘snow terror’

Kishtwar, Jan 20: After a week of horrifying experiences, the people of Kishtwar heaved a sigh of relief Friday when it stopped snowing. However, the area continues to suffer for want of essentials as the authorities failed to clear the 230 KM long Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway on 14thconsecutive day.
The claims of the authorities notwithstanding no vehicle loaded with goods enter into Chenab region as the traffic authorities right from Jammu up to Batote failed to segregate the traffic between Kashmir and Chenab region.
The people are aghast as the demand for LPG and other essentials increases with every passing day. The rural Chenab region is also in trouble. After witnessing more than 80% drought in the year 2011, the people of Chenab region are now facing what they called snow wrath.
"Where is the government, People of Chatroo are without water, ration, kerosene oil, LPG and other essential commodities", questioned Thakur Puran Chand from Drubil Chatroo. Puran Chand (Sarpanch ) said that the area witnessed' complete drought. The people are at the verge of starvation since there is no ration available at government deports."
He criticised the government for its failure to provide drought relief. He also urged on RDD officials to pay balance wages of all labourers working under MGNREGA so that they can use the money to purchase essentialities for his family members.
Another Sarpanch Mohammad Yousaf from Thakri said that the people living in Thakrie belt of Kishtwar Tehsil area facing hardship for want of essential commodities. He said due to non availability of electricity and water, they fail to grind wheat into flour and demanded that instead of wheat, the government should distribute flour among the people living in rural areas.
He said that health care has also been affected since the people who are mostly dependent on Kishtwar District Hospital for treatment fails to reach the hospital due to non availability of roads.
Meanwhile large number of senior officials and their staff posted in far flung areas of Kishtwar District like Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Padder, Chatroo,Chingham, Saroor, Sarthal, Nagsini and other far flung areas of District Kishtwar have been camping at the district headquarters.
