Despite being in coalition, Wani 'appeals' for help | Send ministers to snow hit towns of Doda - - - Restore internal links immediately | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: In what can be seen as making cries in the wilderness, senior Congress leader and former minsiter Abdul Majid Wani is trying to 'stir' and shake a government which is in deep slumber that place like Doda exists where people need goevrnment attention and help. Ironical enough is the fact that Wani is forced to make loud calls and 'frantic appeals' to a dispassionate government of which his party is a partner.Wani has asked the sitting ministers to visit areas affected by snowfall and see for themselves the plight of people. Dissatisfied over day by day worsening situation in whole of erstwhile Doda district, Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda, made an appeal to the chief minister to depute few members of his council of ministers to be stationed at major towns of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts. Since all these three districts are unrepresented in the state council of ministers, people are left on their own to fight for their survival. Wani said the situation is serious especially in remote and difficult areas which are totally cut off from rest of the world due to continuous heavy snowfall for last more than ten days. Communication system to remote and hilly areas stands collapsed; all internal links need to be restored immediately so that the government rescue teams reach remotely located villages and hamlets. Majid Wani further said that except for a single visit made by the chief minister himself during this hour of crisis, the state cabinet ministers have not bothered to visit these three districts, as if these are totally forbidden for them. There is severe shortage of eatables, vegetables, food grains, wheat flour, rice, fodder and blankets even in urban areas of whole of the erstwhile Doda district. Situation in remotely located villages/ hamlets is really pathetic over & above our imagination. No local or state government relief, rescue or health team could reach hundreds of such remotely located & totally cut off small villages/ hamlets in erstwhile Doda district since last ten days. Poor villagers are left alone to live in a dark stone era. The district authorities are not in a position to assess losses occurred to human lives, living stock & cattle what to talk about start of relief & rescue operations in these areas which are totally cut off. All PHE water supply schemes are badly damaged, today. Already rotten wooden poles of electricity are totally damaged and the whole electrical infrastructure have crumbled down because of heavy snowfall. Despite of a number of requests made for starting relief & rescue operations in totally cut off hilly & difficult areas through regular use of choppers for carrying on air dropping of vegetables, ration, fuel & woolen cloths and lifting of seriously ill patients to the nearest hospitals, the authorities have failed to respond fair enough. MLA Doda further said that the people of whole erstwhile Doda district deserve equitable treatment as they are at par with people living in either valley or in Ladakh region. The state government as well as the whole India should respond timely and come to rescue of people living in remote & difficult areas of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts as is being done in the Kashmir valley and as was done in case of Ladakh region in the recent past. |
