Winter chill or pre occupation with polls preventing BJP this year…? | Hoisting tricolour at Lal Chowk on R-Day | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20: With countdown having begun for sprucing up preparations of Republic Day scheduled with loads of nationalism for all the political parties in J&K, BJP this time appears to be in a state of complete 'freeze', all thanks to chill of harsh winter conditions which has paralysed even normal life in Kashmir Valley. The Day is only week's time away but this time there seems to be no whimper , leave alone the loud call for unfurling national tricolor at historic 'hot spot' Lal Chowk among the saffron brigade. In contrast to the political clamour that prevailed last year days ahead of Republic Day with much hyped Tiranaga Yatra, it is a quiet scene this year in BJP corridors. One wonders at this contrast scene but it is not surprising, given the fact BJP's Kashmir policy hangs around such boisterous programme in which they try to depict it is the only party which is filled with sentiments of nationalism, patriotic fervor , and it is only on account of its efforts that Kashmir continues to be an integral part of the country. It is surprising no national level leader nor any central leadership has given call for hoisting national tricolour at Lal Chowk. The state leadership apparently has no programme to go ahead with any team of leaders to Srinagar to unfurl the national flag. Has the nationalistic fervor evaporated or is it the chill of winter that is preventing the party leadership from going ahead with even routine programme, one is certainly prompted to ask. The party sources however attribute the silence in the leadership this to busy schedule of the central leaders and top leadership with polls in the five states. "Every leader that counts and whose presence in such events matters is at present busy with poll related activities…..since they are the ones who throw weight in such programmes, the state leadership may not venture it out alone this year", said a leader wishing anonymity.Last year, it is pertinent to mention that heavyweights and stalwarts like Arun Jaitly, Sushma Swaraj , youth leader Anurag Thakur besides a battery of middle rungleaders came along with Titranag aYatra for the purpose of unfurling tricolor at Lal Chowk, only to be stopped from entering the state by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who contended their presence would vitiate the 'hard earned' peace in Valley, given the fact summer of 2010 had witnessed unprecedented unrest. Some leaders within the party also say that leadership is avoiding it deliberately because such programme may not go well with the poll slogans and that rival parties may get an opportunity to raise fingers that BJP is raking up the politics of Tiranga and love for it mainly to garner more votes. Both the reasons for central leadership not giving priority to Kashmir Programme sound genuine and rational . But there is no point skipping the gesture of hoisting flag this year completely, as state leadership is always and must anytime make itself available for such patriotic acts. Winter chill or any other preoccupation should not deter them in doing so.It is only then people shall understand that party means what it says and acts. |
