Council pushes football trainees to `risky field' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 21: Unprepared ahead of the fortnight-long seizer of its training centers in the hands of security forces for Republic Day function, the `confused' State Sports Council has pushed young football trainees to a risky field at Government Medical College hostel ground, here. However, undeterred by the poor field offered to them, the young boys kept on practice on an uneven ground little aware of the risk involved. The same ground is shared by the young men playing cricket. These poor boys, who, otherwise, practice at GGM Science College coaching center, used bricks to make goal post for practice game. Finding it hard to play under such conditions, the number of regular trainees has decreased drastically. As against near 50 young trainees at Science College, the Medical College ground attracts only 15 to 20 boys. "There is no doubt that the number has been reduced. But, imagine if we stop training them in view of closer of Science College ground, these boys will miss the practice sessions and may discontinue," said football coach Vishwajit. Since authorities concerned at Sports Council were little bothered about finding an alternative venue, it was this coach who took the initiative and brought the boys to Medical College hostel ground to continue training sessions. "This Medical College ground was the best possible nearby option available to me and I took the boys here informing the officers concerned in this regard. Boys shall continue practice here till January 29", maintained the coach.
