Young Panthers rue lack of facilities for stranded passengers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: Up in arms against the state government for its alleged failure in meeting the needs of stranded passengers who are unable to move to and fro because of the blockade of the Jammu-Srinagar, Jammu-Doda-Kishtwar highways, the Young Panthers (Youth Wing of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party-JKNPP) held a strong protest demonstration under the leadership of their senior vice president Pushvinder Singh Manhas. While speaking on the occasion, Manhas said that over 3,100 vehicles, mostly trucks and tankers, stranded on the 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to snowfall and landslides but state authorities have failed to clear them and vehicles loaded with basic amenities could not reach to the cut off areas adding that the authorities even failed to meet the basic needs of the stranded passengers. He said that the vehicles are stranded at various places of the highway including Banihal, Ramban, Patnitop, Udhampur and Nagrota areas of Jammu province for last one week following closure of the highway but the dumb and deaf J&K Government is looking totally non serious for the people who are facing hardships due to the closure of the National Highway. Long queues of vehicles, mostly trucks, can still be seen on the highway on the outskirts of Jammu city, with passengers urging the government to clear the road for traffic, he added. Manhas warned the state government to take up this issue seriously and use the government machinery to clear the National Highway, otherwise they have to face the wrath of the Panthers.
