Court awards life-imprisonment in murder case | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 21: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu today awarded life-imprisonment and fine Rs 10, 000/- to Amarjeet Singh @ Happy who was facing a trial for over seven years in a case registered u/s 302 RPC. While awarding sentence Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal after hearing Special PP Bodh Raj Gupta for the state and Sr Adv Sunil Sethi for the accused, observed the in present day society crime is now considered as a social problem and by reason therefore a tremendous change even conceptually is being seen in the legal horizon so far as the punishment is concerned. On is frequent even given the impression that the individual is behaving in a detrimental way to society by living a long life. It must not be forgotten, however, that it was the older generation who worked hard to create the basis for the prosperity of the younger generation. The court observing this awarded imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) u/s 302 RPC to Amarjeet Singh. According to the police case that on August 14, 2005 at 10:00 O'Clock brother-in-law of complainant, namely Narinder Singh alias Bittu was standing on the side of the road in front of a bridge of canal when Amarjeet Singh alias Happy son of Sangat Singh came along with an iron rod tyre liver from the side of his house and inflicted blows one after other on the head of Narinder Singh alias Bittu with intent to kill him. This led initially to the registration of a case under section 307/323 RPC but injured subsequently succumbed to the injuries in the hospital on the same day. Police after completion of the investigation presented the challan under section 302 RPC against the accused. Initially the charge u/s 304 - II RPC was framed upon the accused. (JNF) |
