No further withdrawal of security forces from J&K for poll duty
1/21/2012 11:48:27 PM
EARLY TIMES Report
Jammu, Jan 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has conveyed its inability to the centre and the Chief Election Commission to make available more companies of state police and the CRPF after 52 CRPF companies were withdrawn from the state in the recent days.
These 52 CRPF companies have been deployed in Punjab an Uttar Pradesh where the
Assembly elections, alongwith three other states, were being held shortly.
Official sources said that the state Government is not in a position to spare additional companies of state police and CRPF for poll duty in five states in view of the requirement of the security forces within the state. The sources said that no doubt the security scenario had registered marked improvement in Jammu and Kashmir during the last one year but the Government can ill afford to downgrade the security grid. In fact the increase in infiltration bids on the LOC and the IB besides reports on regrouping of militants especially those belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen have warranted greater coordination among the security and intelligence agencies.
Police sources said that after 52 CRPF companies had ben withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir and deployed in Punjab and UP for poll duty the number of police personnel in the barracks has been reduced."We do not have enough police peronnel in the barracks after more than 80 per cent of the force has been deployed within the state. In reply to a question a senior police officer said that the union Home Ministry has assured the Govrnment that all the 52 companies of CRPF would be sent back to Jammu and Kashmir after the end of the elections in Punjab and UP.
He added that if the sit uation continued to register further improvement in Jammu and Kashmir there may be some reduction in the redeployment of the CRPF in the state.
