GCET faculty continues protest, stir enters 6th day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: Protesting against the alleged indifferent attitude of the Government and to press for resolution of their pending demands, the stir of faculty members of Government College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) entered into sixth day today. The protesting faculty members demanded implementation of 6th pay commission scales viz a viz formulation of promotional rules which are pending for the last 16 years since inception of the institution. They said that the efforts made by GCET Teaching faculty to put forward their grievances through repeated representation to the concerned higher authorities have not yielded any concrete results. Due to inaction on part of Administrative department, faculty of GCET has decided to continue non-cooperation in respect of class work, examination/evaluation work and suspension of all campus placement activities by Training and Placement department, they added. The faculty members said that it is sheer injustice on part of the State Government that today all the MLA's and Ministers are getting their 6th pay arrears and even all the State Govt. Employees are getting their first instalment of 6th Pay arrears whereas 30 faculty members are still crying for 6th pay commission revision in their favour. Further the teaching faculty pleaded that even after 16 years of its inception; the GCET Teaching Faculty is still struggling for implementation of Promotion Rules. Whereas the Govt. Order No. 107-GAD of 2002 dated 16-01-2001 [Referring (i) Cabinet Decision No. 186/15 Dated 27-12-2001, (ii) Govt. Order No. 602- GAD of 2000 dated 26-05-2000] endorses the fact that "Wherever promotional/recruitment rules have not been finalized the department shall ensure finalization within six months". In absence of promotional rules the GCET faculty is stagnated from the last 16 years and are at the same pay scale and designation where they were recruited 16 years back. The teaching faculty has appealed to Chief Minister to personally look into the matter and provide justice to them at an earliest.
