Kashmir, Ladakh freezes again, Leh records minus 21.8 degrees | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 21: There was nore spite from freezes cold for Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where Pahalgam, Kupwara, Leh and Kargil recorded lowest minimum temperature of the season, badly affecting normal life. However, the Met office issued a fresh forecast of snowfall next week, which would provide some relief to the people from the severe cold. He said there could be light rain or snowfall during the next 24 hours at isolated places in the Jammu and Kashmir. People in Ladakh region shivered due to severe cold after the minimum dropped further this morning, freezing all water bodies. It was minus 22 degree celsius Leh, the coldest of the winter so far during this season. Kargil, the border town on Srinagar-Leh National Highway also recorded minus 21 degree this morning, lowest of the season so far. However, temperature of Drass town, second coldest in the world after Siberia, was not available. Reports said the minimum was between minus 25 degree to minus 40 degree in the upper reaches in the region, including near the Line of Control (LoC), where troops remained deployed to prevent any infiltration from across the border. People in the summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to yet another cold morning after some respite yesterday afternoon when Sun appeared briefly.
