Dry cold taking its toll on Jammu people | | | EARLY TIMES Report Jammu, Jan 21: Dense fog and dry weather conditions continue to throw the normal life out of gear in the plains area of Jammu region with majority of people preferring to postpone their routine activities and stay indoor. However, for urgent nature of work and to earn livelihood, people seem to brave chill and dense fog. The cold wave is intensifying not only Jammu but Kashmir region also as the temperature is further dipping down, with the result that our tourism industry is facing severe fallout. It is estimated that every tourist season the income earned annually from these tourist attraction is nearly 2.5 crores of Indian rupees whereas this season it even seems to be hard to earn money for livelihood. Due to the rapid decrease in the temperature, the weather has promoted an undoubted destruction of wild mountain beauty of the area, where there is immense scope of promoting species of wildlife including snow leopard, brown bear, fox and musk deer etc. Sources in the tourism department said, "Around 40% tourist that is ten lakh people have not shown up this season as it was expected by visualizing the records of previous year." The recent statistics taken by the state government showed a substantial decrease in the sale of world famous Kashmiri handicraft items like Kashmiri shawls, Pashmina,Kani, Sozni and various other like Papier Mache, wooden carvings etc. The sudden foggy weather conditions have massively hampered the outdoor tourist attractions like snowboarding, alpine ski, ski-touring, lug, bobsledding and trekking. The tourism industry is facing a severe footfall as those areas which used to be flooded with thirty-thousand people per day, are now not even receiving half of its share. "The foggy weather has also led to delay of several trains to and fro Jammu railway station leading to inconvience to pasengers including pilgrims to shri Mata vaishno Devi shrine", said prithviraj, a tourist from Haryana. Not only air and train services, even vehcile are seen moving at snail's pace on different roads of jammu as the visibility seem to be very less because of foggy weather conditions. "Rainfall is necessary as this will bring end to fog and ultimately add up to thetourism of the area", says Anu Sharma, a student of B.Com final year. |
