Knowing that "surrender" will bring them a job in police, unemployed youth can join militancy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 21: The government policy to give jobs to surrendered militants in police may entice some unemployed youth into joining militant ranks. Since getting a government job was very difficult nowadays, some unemployed youth could join militancy only to surrender later as this step of theirs would bring them a job in police, official sources said. DGP Kuldip Khuda, however, holds the view that the surrendered ultras were being given jobs to ensure that they did not rejoin militant ranks. But there are instances when some of them, who were engaged as SPOs, fled police stations along with arms and ammunition. 35 new battalions were being created with the assistance of the Centre soon, the sources added. Sources said 70 per cent of the stone pelters in 2010 disturbances in the valley were surrendered militants. If given jobs, they would desist from indulging in such activities in future, the sources added. Sources said surrendered militants, known Ikhwanis, had played a vital role in bringing down the militancy level in the valley. Prominent Ikhwani leaders included Kukka Parray and Javed Ahmad Shah, who were later killed by militants. |
