Official sources said that a few companies of troops were being deployed in and the Maulana Azad stadium in Jammu, the venue for the main Republic Day celebrations. Since the Governor, N N Vohra would be unfurling the tricolour and preside over the function in presence of Chief Minister, other ministers, top Army and Police officers besides senior bureaucrats, the services of Army experts were being utilized for sanitizing the stadium and its immediate surroundings against any explosive material. According to these, both police and Army commandos were being deployed in and outside the stadium and the flyover overlooking the stadium is being brought under thick security cover. Additional police nakas were being set up in the city of Jammu and its peripheral areas for monitoring the movement of people. The naka teams have been directed to carry out frisking of people and checking of private vehicles in order to ensure that no explosive material was carried close to the stadium. Efforts were being made by the administration in all the 22 districts to ensure that the Republic Day celebrations were held without any unsavoury incident. |
