kathua, 22 Jan : The deteriorating condition of Jasrota fort and Park has exposed the tourism department which claims to work for the upkeep of these tourists attractions.
Sarpanch of Panchayat Bakhata Bisheshar Singh and the leader of Kisan Movement Hurmat Singh while interacting with this correspondent said Jasrota spot is widely famous for its natural scenic beauty which has strengthened the already existing tourism potential of the area situated just 10 kilometres away from the National Highway.
The Sarpanch and the Kisan leader have alleged that the tourism potential of Jasrota has been ignored deliberately by all the Kashmir based governments of the state in order to boost the Kashmir tourism potential. They said that the amusement park for children is facing worse condition, the equipment installed for children's amusement is badly rusting and the park is squarely surrounded with green jungles and unwanted plants which are posing a danger to the children who come to the park. Jasrota has great attraction for the tourists and devotees as there are different species of birds and wild animals, a beautiful king's fort, a Jai Kali Mata temple, a wild life sanctuary and park.
Most of the school picnics are conducted in the Jasrota. But, problems like non-availability of water, no toilet facility, no fencing around the parks still exist there. Early Times got in touch with the district tourism officer Smt. Jyoti Koul who said that the department is fully aware about the non availability of water, toilets, and lack of proper road connectivity and all these problems have been brought to the notice of higher authorities.
The people of the surrounding areas said if the state government and tourism department is serious to develop the Jasrota as a tourist spot then the unemployment of the area could be easily and effectively addressed. They told that in this area the number of unemployed youth is high and if developed as the tourist spot, Jasrota could generate employment sources.
