1/23/2012 12:03:25 AM
EARLY TIMES Report
Jammu, Jan 22: In a general body meeting of residents of Karan Nagar Extn Colony, resentment was expressed on two counts viz poor cleanliness, unhygienic conditions and insanitation in the locality and dug out roads by the NBCC/UEED for the last over six months.
The president of the association HC Katoch said, "The agencies have dug out the roads and by lanes haphazardly and left unattended rendering the roads unworthy of plying the vehicles.
In this connection, a protest demonstration was held today by the residents of Karan Nagar Extn. Colony agitating the inaction of the Municipal Corporation Jammu for not clearing the accumulated garbage in the locality especially the dumped on the road touching the Municipal Park at Colony causing huge spill over of the garbage that has choked the drains.
This has become health hazard and possible danger of spread of epidemic in the locality. It is worth noting that Karan Nagar has been the first locality in J&K to contribute every month Rs. 50/- each household that is paid to JMC for lifting door to door of domestic garbage.
The residents urged the concerned authorities to clear the garbage and maintain the cleanliness in the locality.
Besides this, they appealed the NBCC/UEED to restore the lanes and by lanes duly repaired to bring these to its original shape and thereby make motor able.
It was resolved that in case steps are not taken by the concerned, the residents will be constrained to hold a dharna by blocking the road at Jambu Lochan Community Hall on the entrance of Karan Nagar.
