Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 22: The Chief Minister called his counterpart in Madhya Pradesh to enquire about the shooting incident at Ujjain that left a Kashmiri student injured.
The MP Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured Omar Abdullah investigation into the incident and appropriate punishment to the guilty. He also assured safety of students from Jammu Kashmir, Omar tweeted.
However, Omar's call could not pacify the angry students who accused successive state governments of failure to ensure their safety in various states.
Shabir Ahmed from Botangoo, Sopore in north Kashmir was critically injured on Saturday after being fired at by two unidentified assailants in Ujjain on Saturday.
He was doing M Phil from Vikram Vishwavid-yalaya. Reports stated that he was waiting for a bus, at the daylight he was attacked by two unidentified persons.
Eyewitnesses said that two motorbike borne youth appeared near Zila Panchayat Koti road Ujjain on Saturday morning and asked Shabir, to show them the way towards Vikram University Ujjain. "Suddenly the duo fired upon him and he received injury in the neck," they added.
Shabir was reportedly shifted to civil hospital Ujjain from where the doctors referred him to M Y Hospital, Indore.
He was later operated at Indore hospital after CT scan detected bullet in his neck.
Shabir's colleagues in Ujjain, Nafees Ahmad and Arif Ahmad, who were attending him in the hospital, told a local news agency that Kashmiri students were being harassed everywhere in MP.
"We aren't been given accommodation in the hostels as we are Kashmiris. We have to pay higher rent outside," they added.
They alleged that J&K government was least bothered about the condition of Kashmiri students in MP. "Nobody from the government gives any heed to our problems," they added.
Similar incidents had been reported during PDP regime as well.
However, the PDP president, Mahbooba Mufti, students believe, addressed the issue rightly.
