SAD (N) hails appointment of Isher as VC-JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 23: Shiromani Akali Dal National ((SAD-N) in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Gurbachan Singh Dutta President hailed the decision by NN Vohra the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Omar Abdullah Chief Minister of J&K for appointing Dr Mohanpaul Singh Isher as Vice Chancellor of Jammu University. Terming the appointment of Dr Mohanpaul Singh as Vice Chancellor a conscious decision of N N Vohra and Omar Abdullah, Dayal Singh Wazir General Secretary said that Governor of State Vohra deserves special appreciation for this. He said that after a very long time a member from Sikh community has been given an opportunity to serve the people of state in general and student fraternity in particular. He further welcomes the efforts of Wajahat Habibullah Chairman, National Minority Commission (NCM) for writing to Government to amend and NCM Act for making it applicable to the Minority of the state. He said the SADN was pressing very hard to the state and Centre government for the long time to constitute the Minority Commission in the state. Singh appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to consider extension of NCM Act 1992 to state by making a recommendation to the President of India that an amendment may be made to the Act to make it applicable to a state and by considering enact of law for promulgation of J&K Minority Act in the ensuring Assembly Budget session. Amrik Singh Advocate impressed upon the Govt to declare minority community and provide the reservation in jobs and admissions to professional institutes on the analogy adopted by Karnatha, TamilNadu, Kerela, West Bengal and recently in Andhra Pradesh Government for the Muslim Minority community. Other prominent who spoke are Ranbir Singh Manga, Santokh Singh "Komal" Amrik Singh Roshan, Tarlochan Singh Bijral. |
