1/23/2012 10:57:49 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23: Abdul Majid Wani, the senior leader of congress party and MLA from Doda constituency, has demanded creation of separate Boards of School Education and offices of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan for Jammu as well as Kashmir province.
Raising voice for the separation of Board of School Education (BOSE), the MLA Doda, said Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education was established way back in the year 1975 in order to reform, recognize and consolidate school education in our state.
"The board has, indeed, fulfilled above objectives in an able manner, the board is now also overstretched, keeping in view large area of the state and a big number of schools under its jurisdiction, MLA Doda said.
He said, "J&K has approximately 15000 primary schools with an enrolment of more than 12.50 lakh students, 6400 middle schools with roll of more than 5 lakh students and approximately 2300 high/ higher secondary schools and keeping in view these facts & figures it becomes imperative that the state government should issue orders for creation of separate boards of school education in Jammu as well as Kashmir province." MLA Doda also demanded similarly, the Directorate of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan also needs to be decentralized for better planning and improving quality of education. Due to implementation of various intervention programmes viz Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyan (SSA) Total Literacy Campaign (TLC) etc., the level of literacy in the state has gone up from 55.52% to 65.3%, but it still lags behind its adjoining states. "Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, which has wider responsibility to meet these important issues, can deliver better results if it has separate Project Directors, both in Jammu as well as Kashmir province, he said further adding, "the demand for creation of two boards of school education and separate Projectors Directors for Sarv Shilksha Abhiyan is, reportedly, supported by many other legislators and a number of other forums.
