Massacre victim running from pillar to post for relief and justice | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 23: After a long span of five years, widow of Late Bal Krishan still hopes for the long denied justice to her and is running from pillar to post to get some respite and relief from the state government. A victim Shiela Devi whose woes started with the unfortunate event that occurred in May 2006 at Thawa of Kulhand about 30 Km away from the main Doda town but yet has not subsided. During the macabre dance of death 22 people were brutally killed and 14 people were injured by unidentified gunmen and her husband Bal Krishan too was among injured who later succumbed after one year of that unfateful night, as he maimed body failed to cooperate with medicines after receiving 36 bullets in his leg. After the death of lone sole bread earner the rural family is facing hardships to meet even the two meals a day, as whole savings of the family were consumed in the treatment of Bal Krishan. "I have sold all my property including, a piece of land, cows and buffaloes even my marriage gold ornaments for his treatment but he left us alone with nothing to survive on, after a year of fighting with his injuries in the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu", said Sheila Devi, widow of Late Bal krishan. She further added that after that incident of the village, every sufferer got due compensation and also SRO-43 benefits but she is being denied of the same due to lack of education. |
