Avalanche hits security post at Keran | | | Early Times report SRINAGAR, Jan 24 : Seven security force personnel were swept away by an avalanche that struck a security post on the Line of Control in the frontier district of Kupwara early this morning. Srinagar based defence spokesman of the 15 Corps, Lt Col J S Brar, said here that the avalanche struck one of army posts in Keran sector at around 7:30 a.m. The avalanche struck at Furkiyan Gali in the Keran sector and one Border Security Force (BSF) sub-Inspector and 5 army men are among those swept.One body of a BSF man has been recovered so far and other six security forces personnel are still missing.The army started a major rescue operation and avalanche rescue teams have been rushed to the area to look for security men swept away by the avalanche. Last year in February 17 army personnel were killed when an avalanche struck at Gulmarg. |
