Locals protest after housewife allegedly burnt, dies | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: A massive protest was held at Ramgarh in Vijaypur, Samba, near here after the young housewife, who was allegedly burnt by her husband on January 19 last, succumbed to her injuries at the GMCH today. Srishta of Ramloo, Ramgarh, was married to Surinder Singh of Jarh, Barkatpura, on May 11 last year. Since Surinder worked with a railway company at Reasi, he took his wife along with him and the couple started living there in a rented room, police sources said. On January 19 last, she sustained severe burns inside their room. She was then admitted by her husband to the Reasi district hospital from where she was later referred to the GMCH here. On the day of the incident, she told police that she had been set ablaze by her husband. Based on her this statement, police arrested Surinder. She, however, died today at the hospital. Her family members later took the body to Ramgarh and placed it on road, blocking it to vehicular traffic. After protesting there for over hour, they removed the body to the nearby Keso Morh and started demonstrating there. They were demanding the arrest of Surinder's other family members too, alleging that all of them had conspired to kill her. Senior police and civil officers later visited the spot. Following an assurance by them that justice would be done in the case, the protesters lifted their dharna and took the body to Ramloo where it was consigned to flames. The road remained blocked for over five hours. |
