Govt rules out extension to retiring officers | `Special people can be re-appointed' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: The government today ruled out grant of extension to retiring IAS officers. However, re-appointment of `favourities' was justified by playing with words. Reports said that 22 IAS officers are retiring in the coming months which may have a serious bearing on the administrative setup of the state. However sources in the civil secretariat while rejecting such notions said that there was no dearth of IAS officers in the state and the functioning of the state administration shall in no way be affected by the retirement of few senior officers. Responding to reports of extension the PHE Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din and the Law Secretary ruled out such a possibility. "This is absolutely wrong, there is no such proposal and be sure no extension will be given to any retiring officer, this is the policy of the government" Taj said. When asked why senior IAS officer Basharat Ahmed Dar was posted as Managing Director Power Development Corporation after retirement, Taj said there is difference between extension and re-appointment. "Reappointment is made without coder and extension is given to the coder, don't intermingle one with another" added Taj. On dearth of IAS officers, GH Tantray said that the state government could either call back the IAS officers who are in deputation with the Union government or can order the posting of senior IAS officers posted outside the Civil Secretariat. 'There are a number of senior IAS officers like Shugufta Parveen, Vinod Koul, Ghanzanfar, Bukhari and many others posted in various department and organisations outside the Civil Secretariat who can be posted against the posts of retiring officers in the various administrative departments, Tantray said. "Though it is the domain of General Administrative Department to comment on this issue, however, I am sure there is no such proposal under the consideration of the government to give extension to the retiring officers " G.H. Tantray said. Citing reasons Law secretary said, "Normally state government can't go for the extension of retiring officers because the government has to seek the approval of the Union government ". Sources also said that the Chief Minister was against such extension. This was, sources said, obvious from the fact that very recently Chief Minister turned down two proposals sent by Deputy CM in regard to the extension of two officers. |
