Army, BSF personal trapped in avalanche still untraced | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 26: There was still no trace of four Army soldiers and a Border Security force (BSF) jawan even as air and field rescue operation continued in Keran sector near the Line of Control (LoC) as there was also improvement in the weather today. Sources said, "Four Army and one BSF personnel were buried alive under a huge snow avalanche near Farkiyan Gali in Keran sector when they were on a joint patrolling on January 24 morning." Meanwhile, body of a BSF sub-inspector Narinder Kumar was recovered same day and later sent to Delhi after paying floral tributes here yesterday. Body of an Army jawan was also recovered on January 24 evening while search operation continued to trace other missing soldiers. A senior BSF officer said due to poor visibility and bad weather the search operation was again stopped last evening, however it again was re-launched this morning following improvement in the weather and visibility. Official sources said two to three Army helicopters besides trained dogs were put into service to trace the missing soldiers this morning. Last year, 15 Armymen were swept away after their camp under heavy snow avalanche in Gulmarg sector. |
