BSF officer offer sweets to Pakistani counterparts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Jan 26: On the occasion of India's 63rd Republic Day, the Border Security Force today gifted traditional Indian sweets to their Pakistani counterparts at Attari-Wagah international border. Besides exchange of sweets BSF troops killed one Pakistani intruder along Indo-Pak international border in Pargwal Sector of this winter capital today. Official sources said as a goodwill gesture, Indian and Pakistani troops also exchanged sweets and fruits at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point, along the Line of Control (LoC), in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. "Led by Colonel Javed of 11 Baloch Regiment, Pakistan Army officers met their Indian counterparts led by Colonel Kumar Ankur and greeted them on the occasion of Republic day," officials said. A similar gesture was also witnessed at octroi border outpost along the international border in Jammu district, where BSF officers and their counterparts exchanged sweets and greetings. Apart from these two occasions in state, Jammu and Kashmir, the BSF DIG Sanjeev Bhanot and Commandant BSF Sumedh Singh shook hands with Lieutenant Colonel Suheil, who is the wing Commander of Pakistan Rangers (the Pakistani border guarding force) at Attari (Punjab), a BSF official said. The sweets with traditional fruits, set in nine different packets and wrapped in beautiful packing, the official said, adding that there was no tension and both sides looked relaxed. All senior officers of Pakistan Rangers posted on Wagah border were present at the Joint Check Post during the ceremony, the official said. Meanwhile a Pakistani intruder was gunned down by the alert troops of Border Security Force along Indo-Pak international border in Pargwal Sector of this winter capital today, an official said. "The troops of 86 battalion BSF this morning observed some suspicious movement near the forward post of Chak Mallar in Pargwal Sector,'' the official said. He said that the troops asked him to stop when he sneaked into the Indian Territory. "The intruder did not respond to the warnings and tried to escape following which the BSF men opened fire,'' the official added. The intruder was gunned down on the spot. No incriminating material or any other object was recovered from him, he added. Tight security has been put in place across Jammu and Kashmir, including the bordering belts, in view of peaceful and incident free celebrations of Republic Day. |
