Congress, SP doing what League did before 1947
Towards Another Partition -- V

JAMMU, Jan 26: However, the situation turned extremely dangerous in the last week of last December, when the Congress crossed all the limits and suggested religion-based quota in the proposed Lokpal institution. The Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill said the reserved quota, including quota for the minorities, in the Lokpal institution should not be less than 50 per cent. This was violation and negation of the Indian Constitution and the several Supreme Court rulings that the reserved quota under no situation shall cross the 50 per cent limit. The Congress, in collaboration with other "secular" formations, did all this to woo the Muslim electorate, especially in UP. The BJP and similar other formations opposed the Bill tooth and nail saying the Bill, if adopted, would only prepare the ground for another partition of the country on religious lines. The adamant and arrogant Congress did not pay any heed to the BJP's suggestions and got the Bill adopted in the Lok Sabha on December 27.
Not content with all this, the Congress took one more step to placate the Muslim voters. Just on the eve of announcement of election schedule for assembly elections in UP, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Goa and Manipur, the Congress-led UPA government announced 4.5 per cent religion-based sub-quota within the existing 27 per cent quota reserved for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) overlooking the dangerous ramifications, including the possibility of a civil war between the Muslims and the OBCs. The BJP protested, but with no result. The BJP delegation not only said that the Congress's decision on 4.5 per cent sub-quota for the minorities was unconstitutional but also knocked at the doors of the Election Commission of India and told it that the Congress' announcement constituted a serious violation of model code of conduct. The Election Commission endorsed the BJP's viewpoint and stayed the operation of the order on religion-based quota in government jobs and educational institutions, the action which evoked a very strong reaction from the Congress.
The Congress, instead of reviewing its stand on religion-based quota, went a step further. Senior Congress leader and Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid announced in an election rally at Farrukhabad (UP) that the Congress, if voted to power, shall reserve 9 per cent seats in government jobs and educational institutions for the Muslims in UP. He made this highly controversial and unconstitutional statement while campaigning in favour of his wife Julie Khurshid. The BJP once again opposed the declaration on religion-based quota and approached the Election Commission to lodge a complaint against Salman Khurshid and the Congress, which defended the Law Minister to the hilt saying Khurshid had committed no wrong and that what he said was perfectly in line with what the Congress had promised in its 2009 Lok Sabha manifesto. Salman Khurshid virtually threatened the Election Commission of India. He and his Congress party displayed naked communalism, with other "secular" formations practically endorsing the idea of religion-based reservation. In fact, while the BSP demanded 15 per cent reservation for the Muslims, the SP demanded share for this community in proportion to its total population in UP and elsewhere.
But the Congress and other "secular" formations were not simply happy with what they did in New Delhi and UP to appease the minorities. They went several steps further to win the minority votes. The Congress, the SP and the JD-U joined hands with militant and fundamentalist organizations like Mili Council, the Muslim Personal Law Board, the Dar-ul-Uloom (Deoband), the Firnagi Mahal (Lucknow) and others and hatched a conspiracy to stall the noted writer Salman Rushdie's visit to Jaipur, where he was to participate in Literary Festival. It was an international event. The Congress governments in New Delhi and Rajasthan created an environment that forced Rushdie to cancel his visit from London to Jaipur. Even his scheduled video address to the Literary Festival was cancelled at the last moment on January 24, thus lowering the image of India in the eyes of the international community and establishing that the Congress leadership could go to any extent to woo the fanatics who masquerade as the Muslim communities' representatives.
Lucknow, Deoband, Hyderabad, and even Jaipur are in the forefront posing a live challenge to the unity and integrity of India. The worst part of the whole situation is that it is the Congress and the parties like the SP which are replicating what the Muslim League and Jinnah did to divide India on communal lines. It's a dangerous situation and it is now for the politically conscious Indians to defeat the evil game-plan of the Congress and other "secular" formations. There is no other alternative left.
