| Measures afoot to minimize road accidents: Yaseen | | | JAMMU|January 16 Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today convened a high level officers meeting to discuss thread bare the reasons for day to day traffic accidents across the state and took several important decisions for implementation of traffic rules strictly to minimize occurrence of traffic accidents in the state particularly on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway aimed at to stop the human losses. Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that government is committed to provide better and comfortable transport facilities to the passengers. For the purpose the regulation of traffic system would be streamlined so that traffic accidents especially in district Rajouri, Poonch and Doda could be reduced and the people of these areas are provided safe transport facilities, the Minister added. Hakeem Yaseen issued directions to the concerned officers to mobilise all agencies and launch special drive against the violators and government would enforce traffic rules with full force. For the purpose measures of urgent nature are required to be taken at different levels. Transport Minister clarified that there is no ban on issuing the permits at district level adding that the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Regional Transport Officers could issue such permits after completion of all codal formalities so as to minimize the problems being faced by the general masses. Hakeem Yaseen directed to intensify the checking at Lakhanpore so that entry of un-registered vehicles to the state is stopped. He also directed to restrict the parking of different kinds of vehicles on busy roads creating problems in public movement in the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu. He asked to keep available Nodal officers at Bus stands who would monitor the timely operation of passenger services. The Minister, winding up the 2 hours long deliberations on different issues of the transport and its line departments, warned that serious action would be taken against those officials who do not discharge their duties satisfactory.
