Sham asks younger generation to keep away from social evils, help in making society healthy | | | Early Times Report JOURIAN (AKHNOOR), Jan 27 : As a part of Independence Day celebrations, an impressive function was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian today. Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma, who was chief guest on the occasion, unfurled the tri-colour and took salute at the impressive march past presented by the smart contingents of NCC cadets and school children. Hundreds of students from different schools of the adjoining localities, Sarpanchs, Panchs, prominent personalities, sectoral officers of various departments, army officials, parents and large number of people were present on the occasion. Greeting the people on this auspicious occasion, the Minister said that this day is special for each Indian and it reminds us about the numerous sacrifices made by our forefathers for attaining the independence of nation and democratic set up, after long struggle. He asked each one to uphold the dignity, sovereignty of the nation and strengthening the bonds of communal harmony and mutual borhterhood for which our great leaders made sacrifices. Giving special message to the younger generation to take a pledge to keep away from the bad evils like smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction and various types of other abuses, the Minister said that these anti-social and anti-mankind objects are eating the vitals of the society. He asked the youth to make a united fight against such evils and make the society healthy, prosperous. He also asked the youth to spread awareness among the general masses about the dreaded diseases like HIV/AIDS, Cancer, female foeticide and above all corruption, which is root cause of uncertainty in the society. Maintaining that teachers and parents have greater responsibility to nurture the younger generation in positive direction, he said youth is the future of the nation and they need to be guided properly about the challenges ahead. He stressed for instilling the sense of responsibility, discipline and their duties towards the society as well as nation. The rich ethos of our composite culture are the strong basis for strengthening the society and need of the hour is to promote these principles for the better future and all round development of the nation, he asserted. Taking a mild dig on the teachers for poor results in Government schools during the past few academic sessions, the Minister asked them to take more pains to improve the results and uphold the dignity of this noble profession. He stressed for promoting the old age tradition of 'Guru-Shishiya' to strengthen the trust between the teachers and students for better results and healthy environment in the institutions. He also stressed on imparting the quality education and preparing the students to compete in different fields. Responding to the demands of school management, the Minister announced construction of a hall and separate toilet block for the girl students in the premises. The students presented colourful bonanza of cultural items based on national integration, patriotism and social evils, which enthralled the audience.The Minister gave away prizes to the students who displayed their talent in different mesmerizing events. |
