GDC Hiranagar organises symposium on 'Soil Conservation' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 28: Government G.L. Dogra Memorial Degree College, Hiranagar on Saturday organised a Symposium on "Soil and Water Conservation for Sustainable Livelihood" in collaboration with Directorate of Soil Conservation J&K. About 15 participants highlighted the global and local problems of soil and water and its remedial measures. Mukerjeet Sharma, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of forests was the chief guest on the occasion. The Principal of the college, Ram Krishan presided over the function and elaborated on the topic and made it clear that why we have included earth and water in Panchatva according to Hindu Mythology. Mukerjeet Sharma in his speech, stressed upon the importance of preserving soil and water for sustainable livelihood by way of insitu conservation i.e. construction of Dams, pond, etc. P.K. Kudiyar, District Soil Conservation officer, Forest Department, Kathua also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Deepshikha Sharma, from Department of Environmental Science presented the welcome address and briefed about the topic by highlighting the depletion of soil and water resources in India. Prof. Daya Vilas Khajuria presented vote- of- thanks and summarized the whole function as a small effort for the conservation of Natural resources. |
