Open letter to PM
SoS for early redressal of their problems
7/31/2006 9:45:03 PM
Jammu July-31- The SOS –An international Organization for PoK Refugees have sought their inclusion in the round table conference and also incorporating their legitimate demands in the agenda for such conferences.
In an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Rajiv Chuni Chairman of the Organization has alleged that right from the days of Indian’s partition and creation of Independent state of Pakistan, the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir territory and the PoK refugees have been a bone of contention between the two countries and all other problems arising from time to time have been of no consequence in comparison. He said that during the past six decades the basic problem has remained at the centre of talks between the two nations bilaterally and internationally adding that Pakistan has been continuously insisting that Kashmir was the only problem between the two neighbours and maintained though PoK is an integral part of India yet it could be discussed along with many other problems.
Rajiv Chuni in his letter said that India on international and domestic forums have been assuring that territory under the illegal occupation of Pakistan would be retrieved and the refugees would be sent back to the places of their origin. But regretted that nothing has been done to mitigate the problems of the refugees during all these years and so much the Centre has not bothered to include the refugee representatives in the Round Table Conferences held by the Prime Minister.
Excluding PoK refugees from these meetings, he said, clearly indicates that the Central Government was non serious about their problems and consider the refugees as non-entity and their problem as non-issue. He alleged the refugees were living under sub-human conditions in the camps and denying them representation in the working groups would be a serious human rights violation, he observed.
