Education vital tool for overall development, prosperity: Sham

AKHNOOR, Jan 28 : Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has said that education is the vital tool for the overall development and all out efforts are being made to enhance the literacy rate, especially in the rural and far-flung areas.
He said Government has strengthened the education infrastructure at all levels, from primary to higher education in all three regions of the State to make this basic facility accessible to every student at their doorsteps.
The Minister said that previous as well as present Governments have made an earnest effort to better two core sectors viz, education and health, which are directly linked with the development and prosperity of people and numerous steps have been initiated in this direction.
During the past few years, these sectors have received focused attention and results are visible on ground.
Addressing the people at a function organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Sohal, in connection with the celebrations of Republic Day, the Minister appealed the people to provide higher education to their wards, especially the girls to ensure cent percent literacy rate in the State. He said girls are contributing equally in all fields and they needed fair treatment and opportunities to grow, adding that Government's endeavor is to empower the women folk at par with their male counterparts and make them partner in every field.
He cited the example of women like President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, UPA Chairperson, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi and Lok Sabha Speaker, Mrs. Miera Kumar, who are at the commanding positions in the country and people must get inspiration from them and remove the gender conception from their minds.
Earlier, he unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past by the contingents of school children and NCC cadets.
The main attraction of the function was colorful bonanza of composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir and skits on social evils presented by the students of different schools which were highly applauded by the audience.
The Minister gave away prizes to the students who excelled in academic as well as co-curricular activities. He asked the students to work hard and bring laurel for their parents as well for people of Akhnoor. He also asked the teachers to devote more time to improve the results.
Sarpanchs, Panchs, prominent citizens, sectoral officers of various departments, parents and large number of students were present on the occasion.
Later, the Minister also visited famous and revered shrine of Baba Balloji at Mathwar and paid obeisance. He prayed for the peace and prosperity of the State and its people.
