Reputed poets participate in All India Urdu mushaira | Jora, Nasir appreciate academy's endeavour | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, JAN 28: Appreciating Urdu's worth as a powerful medium of communication minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that Urdu was India's gift to the world and stressed on the need for its promotion and propagation. The minister was addressing a jam-packed gathering at Abhinav theatre here on Saturday on the eve of All India Urdu Mushaira. Echoing similar sentiments minister of state for tourism and culture, Nasir Aslam Wani said that as a medium of communication Urdu needed special attention and assured that the government would play its role in promoting it. Earlier welcoming the guests, secretary Academy, Atal Dulloo said that for the past more than four decades the Academy had been holding the All India Urdu Mushaira and assured that the practice would be continued in future also. The mushaira, which is an annual event, saw participation of several nationally reputed poets like Krishan Kumar Toor, Praveen Kumar Ashq, Javed Anwar, Mumta Singh and Sardar Punchi. Prominent poets from the state, who attended the event, included Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri, Dr Shafaq Sopori, Rukhsana Jabeen, Dr. Nazir Azad, Syed Raza, Sajad Hussain, Rafeeq Raaz, Zahid Mukhtar, Arsh Sehbai, Pritpal Singh Betab, Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Sagar Sehgar, Sham Talib, Ushaq Kishtwari, Balraj Bakshi, Vidyaratan Aasi, Sajad Punchi, Sudha Anjum, Dr Liaqat Jafri and Ahmad Shanas. The mushaira was presided over by Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri while Ayaz Rasool Nazki conducted the proceedings of the event. Chief editor Urdu, M Ashraf Tak coordinated the mushaira. |
