Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 28: To keep its kettle boiling on over the much hyped issue of Armed Forcers Special Powers Act (AFSPA), National Conference President and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah stirring the issue today said that revocation of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir has started gaining support from across the country.
Talking to media persons after visiting family of former MP late G N Kochak in Anantnag, Dr Abdullah said, "Time has come when all draconian laws should be revoked from the state. Not only in J&K but across the country voices have started emerging that AFSPA and other black laws must go."
Standing besides his son Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had been sailing his boat on AFSPA issue for a long time to divert the people's attention from issues like price hike and other controversial issues in recent past over the AFSPA issue, the NC President Farooq Abdullah said that revocation of black laws is gaining momentum which has generated hope that laws would be revoked soon.
Pertinent to mention here that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and others leaders of the party had alleged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for raking up the AFSPA issue to divert attention from the death of a ruling National Conference worker Haji Mohd Yusuf in police custody last year.
The NC worker died on September 30 last year in police custody after two fellow party workers accused him of taking Rs 1.18 crore from them for getting them berths in the Legislative Council.
To a question regarding Patribal fake encounter of 2000, he said, "I am satisfied with the proceedings of the case in the Supreme Court and soon the justice would be done."
He urged the relatives of the victims to have full faith on the Supreme Court verdict. Asked to comment on the performance of the coalition government in the state, the Union Minister said, "The government is proving successful on all the fronts and needs appreciation for that."
"In the next three years, Omar Abdullah led government will take the state to new heights of development and provide employment to the youth," he claimed.
