BJP rebels, Congress dissidents to show their teeth during civic poll | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 29: Rebels in the BJP and the dissidents in the Congress is likely to itch the two mainstream political parties during the ensuing civic elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as per sources in the two parities. Sources in the two organizations revealed that rebels in the BJP are planning to make it hot for the candidates that were to be fielded by the loyalists in the civic elections. Reports said that the BJP leadership faces the more difficult task in the Jammu Municipal Corporation election and in the civic elections in Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Udhampur and six other areas. 'And these areas are believed to be the strong holds of the ousted seven BJP MLAs, sources said. According to these reports, the rebels in the BJP plan to utilize the ensuing civic elections for displaying their strength and their influence on people in the Jammu region. Since the fate the BJP MLAs facing axe for their alleged involvement in notorious 'cash for vote' episode in the state is yet to be decided by the speaker of the Assembly and the court but the expelled BJP MLAs are mulling plans to field their candidates as independents in the coming local bodies polls. The loyalists too have started organizing mass contact by organizing vicinity-wise and village-level meetings with people with the purpose of cultivating their support. As far as the state unit of the Congress the party leadership too is concerned over the problems which includes three-year long conflict between the loyalists, headed by the PCC Chief,Saif-ud-Din Soz, and some of the dissidents, led by the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. The party sources opinioned that blow from dissidents could be more serious than the BJP or the other rival parties. "Because the dissidents would not confine their anti-Soz activities during the civic elections confined only to the Jammu region but to the Kashmir valley too, they added. As is the case with the BJP rebels the congress dissidents too wish to demonstrate that they have more acceptability among people than the loyalists. Reports indicate that though the dissidents would not dare to publicly oppose the party candidates they plan to field their favourites as independents so that if they were not able to win they would not allow the official candidates to stage a victory. This can be done by causing a split in the pro-Congress voters. Initially the Congress and the BJP have been opposing the NC idea of holding the civic elections on non-party basis but of late the two parties may opt for a poll being fought on a non-party basis which could help the two to keep the level of conflict between the two factions under wrap. |
