St Soldiers, Hiranagar Club in QFs of hockey | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 29: The young side of St Soldiers today trounced fighting seniors of Samba Club to pave way for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 25th General Zorawar Singh Hockey Championship at KK Hakhu Stadium, here. The energetic side of mostly the teenagers first held their seniors from Samba to a 1-1 draw in the first half and then clinched the thriller making it 4-3 in the given 60 minutes game. Jaspreet Singh Jimmy played a key role in St. Soldiers' victory with three goals coming from his stick. He struck in the seventh, 33rd and 42nd minute of the match.. The fourth goal was scored by Karanjeet in the 40th minute. Earlier, Samba took first lead when Kuljeet Singh netted the ball in very fifth minute. Other two goals were scored by Digvijay Singh in 35th and 50th minute. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Hiranagar Club registered a 2-1 victory over Deshmesh Club. Though Deshmesh netted the first goal striking in the 15th minute through Navjot, yet Hiranagar emerged winner dominating the field after the breather. Rompy and Sanjay were scorers who sounded the board in 27th and 40th minute respectively. Today's matches were officiated by Jagjeet Singh and D Singh as umpires. Among others who witnessed today's matches were senior players, Gurmeet Singh, Narinder Singh, Janak Singh and Jagjeet Singh. FIXTURE: Zorawar Club shall be playing against Kathua Club in the quarterfinals at 2 pm followed by the second match between Singh Club Bandhurakh and MBS Hockey Club at 3.25 pm tomorrow. |
