Over 2500 PDD workers stage protest, blocks Tawi bridge | Div com assure to talk Com Secy and CM | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 30: J&K Public Development Department daily wagers Union held a massive protest pressing to fulfill their long pending demands. The protestors also tried to block the normal traffic on ever busy Tawi Bridge. More than 2500 PDD workers drawn from all over the state gathered at press Club Jammu. A huge protest demonstration in form of rally visited Divisional Commissioner Office at Mubakh Mandi. Raising slogans against government alleging state government for step-motherly treatment with them, the daily wagers marching through various markets arrived at Maharaja Hari Singh Bridge (Main Tawi Bridge) and blocked it for some time. Tarun Gupta state president J&K Public Development Department daily wagers Union said that if their demands will not be fulfilled by 7th of February they will stringent the protest and on 8th of Feb even permanent workers of PDD department would observe one day pen down strike to support them. He said that Chief Minister assured two years back that our demands would be fulfilled soon but in spite of that no such action has been taken in this regard by the department as well as the administration even till this period. Kulbushan Singh, State General Secretary J&KPDD daily wagers union said, "Only fake assurances were extended by political leaders and bureaucrats till this time. The step motherly treatment of state government had annoyed the poor daily wagers who are the backbone of this department and forced them to come on road". They said that they met Divisional Commissioner, Pawan Kotwal who assured them that with in two days he would forward their plea to Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner Secretary, PDD and state chief minister Omar Abdullah to address their problems.
